Politics: GOP Finds the 'Key' to Illinois Victory?

Mike Ditka didn't want to be Da Senator in Illinois. Does Alan Keyes? (registration: bugmenot)

I'll say right now that Keyes wouldn't stand a chance, if he decides to run. I voted for him in the 2000 Presidential primary, and I would love to see him elected, but his obstacles seem insurmountable. On top of facing a strong challenge from Democratic wunderkind Barck Obama, Keyes probably sits too far to the right to get elected in a left-leaning state like Illinois.

The chances of the Republicans winning that Senate seat seem about as likely at this point as Mack Brown leading the Texas Longhorns to an undefeated season. I expect Keyes to stay put in Maryland, while the GOP offers up a sacrificial lamb.
